Mystery Client Investigation 2020

A Mystery Client Investigation into this new policy, conducted in the summer of 2020, revealed multiple safety concerns surrounding these new measures. In total 26 calls were made by fake aliases, playing various different scenarios to three different abortion providers (BPAS, Marie Stopes International and NUPAS). The main findings were as follows:

  • 26 out of 26 women received pills

  • The shortest call was 29 minutes and 42 seconds

  • No identity checks were performed

  • No NHS numbers were required

  • Fake aliases were able to obtain pills for other people

  • Fake aliases were able to change the date of their last menstrual period (LMP) without question

  • Abortion criteria was offered on all or any "emotional" grounds

  • No follow up calls were received
